York Minster

We were approached in June 2007 to assess the York Minster existing fibre network that had been installed in 2000.

Their aim was to provide an IP telephone system throughout the York Minster properties. Including their residential and schools buildings, as well as upgrade their existing CAT5e network within their buildings to CAT6. With the possibilities of extending the usages of the network to cover; Wireless networking, Multimedia and Live video casting, CCTV, Fire and Intruder Alarms.

We tested their existing fibre network which was based on a multimode 62.5/125nm fibre cable. We found that it was inadequate to carry their proposed future services due to the distances involved and we designed a new 10Gb singlemode fibre network to future proof their core (backbone) infrastructure, which was enhanced with their proposed Netgear GSM7328s switches and the AX741 and AXM752 fibre modules.

We were also approached to install their CAT6 IP and data network and we designed and proposed an ADCKrone Cabling Solution. Which would guarantee the Dean & Chapter of York Minster a 20 Year installation and product warrantee.

The Fibre and CAT6 networks were to be installed within 26 of the Minster properties which included; Church House, York Minster, The Minster Library (now Old Palace), The Deanery, St Williams College, The Stoneyard, Minster Schools, The Glaziers Trust and their residential properties.

With all of the Dean & Chapter of York Minster properties, guidance and approvals were needed as all properties were of grade 1 listed status and York Minster itself required further Building Fabric consent.

We are pleased to report that all properties including York Minster and the Central Tower have been completed and that the Dean & Chapter of York Minster are currently using their new ADCKrone CAT6 Data and fibre network for integrated network solutions.

The Dean & Chapter of York Minster are currently awaiting Lottery Funding approval, for their restoration project for the Great East window. This also includes funds for future development of York Minster interactive educational material and visitor information and there are future requirements within the Minster to extend their new network.
